I Watched 20 Will Ferrell Movies And Ranked Them From Funniest To Least Funny

Will Ferrell has created some of the funniest movies ever. His knack for making hilarious parodies and character comedy films is what makes him such a standout comedian and notable Saturday Night Live alumni.

Watching Will Ferrell movies is enjoyable, mostly because they are filled with humorous punchlines — but also because his costars are always as equally funny as he is, making Will Ferrell movies easy to watch all the way through.

Since Will Ferrell is arguably one of the funniest comedians ever, I felt compelled to rank 20 of his movies from super funny to not so funny. Disclaimer: Just because there are some movies of Ferrell's that I consider less funny doesn't mean they're NOT funny.

1. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby

Columbia Pictures / Via tenor.com

Hand's down Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is one of Will Ferrell's top five best movies. Everything about this movie was on point from the jokes, to the plotline, to the way Ricky Bobby (Will Ferrell) and his best friend Cal (John C. Reilly) played off of each other. This satirical film about NASCAR drivers and NASCAR culture was executed perfectly, containing zero unfunny scenes in it.

2. Blades of Glory

Will Ferrell in "Blades of Glory"

Blades of Glory is another classic Will Ferrell satirical comedy. This movie comedically and hyperbolically illustrated the lives of competing men figure skaters. Everything about this movie was funny, especially the costuming and rift between the two lead characters.

3. Step Brothers

Columbia Pictures / Via giphy.com

This movie is one of Will Ferrell's best satirical comedies, as well as most memed movies. The comedic timing between Will Ferrell and his costar John C. Reilly is just as incredible as it was in Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. In Step Brothers, both Ferrell and Reilly are equally hilarious, but cringey in different ways, which makes the film super funny.

4. The Other Guys

Columbia Pictures / Via giphy.com

If you haven't noticed the trend by now, Will Ferrell has an affinity for making satirical movies — and he's great at making them. Poking fun at the New York Police Department (NYPD), Ferrell gave us another comedy masterpiece with The Other Guys. While a few of the scenes in The Other Guys were half-witted, the overall movie was filled with clever punchlines.

5. A Night at the Roxbury

SNL Studios / Via giphy.com

This movie is Will Ferrell's debut satire comedy film and established the formula for his future satirical projects. Although this movie will ignite some laughter if you watch, to me A Night at the Roxbury isn't as funny as his later comedies. Albeit the synchronized head nod dance to Haddaway's "What Is Love?" that Ferrell and his costar Chris Kattan did in the film has become pretty legendary.

6. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues

A scene from "Anchorman: The Legend Continues"

Satire is Will Ferrell's strong suit, and that is evident in his two-part Anchorman series. Now I'm more partial to the Anchorman sequel, because Meagan Good is in it, but mostly because the jokes were less redundant than the first Anchorman. There were many offensive jokes in this movie, but since no ethnicity or gender was off-limits in the film, the jokes were bearable.

7. Tammy

A scene from "Tammy"

Will Ferrell didn't act in this film, but he did produce it — meaning Tammy had some of his comedic flair by default. His collaboration with Melissa McCarthy, the writer of Tammy, was some of his best work.

8. The Boss

The Boss is the result of another Will Ferrell and Melissa McCarthy collaboration, with Ferrell as the producer. Although this movie is funny because Melissa McCarthy is funny, it isn't as funny as some of the other character comedy films that Will Ferrell has done himself.

9. Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy

A scene from "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy"

Will Ferrell's first Anchorman has many hilarious moments; however, the film had excessive sexist jokes. I know that was the point since Anchorman is a satirical comedy about the misogynistic newscasting industry of the 1970s, but there is such a thing as overkill.

10. Semi-Pro

Mosaic Media Group / Via gfycat.com

Funny movie, but at times Will Ferrell goes a bit overboard, which makes Semi-Pro more goofy than funny.

11. Kicking & Screaming

Universal Pictures / Via makeagif.com

Kicking & Screaming is a bit cheesy for my taste but still comedy.

12. Elf

New Line Cinema / Via shiftlondon.org

Elf is funny, but had more cringey moments than funny.

13. The House

Anytime Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell link up, it's comedic gold; however, for The House, it was just eh.

14. Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga

Gary Sanchez Productions / Via tenor.com

Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga was a funny spoof of singing competitions, specifically European singing competitions. Yes, the film had some hilarious depictions of what competitors look like singing in reality TV competitions, but other than that the film was passé for Ferrell.

15. Daddy's Home

Paramount Pictures / Via gifer.com

Again, Daddy's Home is another Will Ferrell movie that is only kind of funny.

16. The Campaign

Gary Sanchez Productions / Via gifer.com

Some funny moments, but The Campaign is mostly underwhelming.

17. Daddy's Home 2

Gary Sanchez Productions / Via tenor.com

Daddy's Home 2 is more foolish than funny.

18. Get Hard

Warner Bros. Pictures / Via tenor.com

Get Hard tried too hard, and as a result became one of Will Ferrell's least funny movies.

19. Land of the Lost

A scene from "Land of the Lost"

The funniest thing about Land of the Lost is when Will Ferrell sings an auto-tuned version of Cher's "Believe" in the forest. Literally.

Universal Pictures / Via mercurynews.com

20. Holmes & Watson

A scene from "Holmes & Watson"

This is a movie that Will Ferrell could've left in the vault to be honest. But even Will Ferrell's Holmes & Watson has a few funny scenes.
